If you have a PS3 or Xbox 360, this is definitely the game to get, right now especially. Unfortunately I don't have either. I am awaiting the PC release, of course, since I play only on the PC now, almost always online. GTA IV will be online for the first time so this is major and, of course, this will be almost like going back into GTA III again, like GTA III, 2008 version. I loved GTA III and Liberty City and it was the first GTA I started playing, so it will be nice going back to Liberty City! See ya there.

rockstargames.com/IV/

Spacemusic Season 3 and a Little Update

I went to the Spacemusic site and was glad to see Season 3! I'm in the middle of 3.1, so far, and it sounds niiice. I want everyone to check it out, especially if you've never listened to Spacemusic.

On to my other music interests, I might be getting the SSX (1) Main Menu song that I've been trying to get, really ever since I played it back in 2000/2001. The song isn't on the soundtrack (or even listed) and I've tried to extract the music from the game CD with no luck. I found someone on a forum who may have it and contacted the user on AIM and I'm supposed to be getting it at some point through e-mail, hopefully.

I received a comment recently from Dave Beran, one of the music composers on the Rise FM radio station in GTA 3, correcting a song title. It's confusing trying to figure out which song is which from the artist/song list because it's hard to tell when one song ends and when another begins. Here's my response:

Hi, Dave Beran. Thanks for the input. That song is easily the best song in GTA 3! I remember just turning to Rise FM and waiting for that song to come on. There's just something special about the vocals of the woman in the song and the music. Congratulations on your success. I can only hope that one day I will be able to make something on that level.

Long Live Demonoid and Mongo56!

The Demonoid tracker/site appears to be down for good (along with TorrentSpy eventually probably). Too bad the TorrentSpy torrent had problems, though. It was taken off for some unknown reason and I couldn't re-upload it because of the "existing" torrent. How Laaammme. Speaking of TorrentSpy, they've blocked US connections recently as you may know. I guess you could use a proxy but it doesn't look good for my favorite BT site...

Also, someone last night sent me the NFS 3 - The Album, which some songs/tracks are slightly different/remixed. I really like the slight changes in some of the songs. I've vaguely read about this in-game music change depending on gameplay. Now I remember that I've listened to different versions of some songs from various random NFS soundtracks a while ago but didn't really know what that was about. I guess there are two versions to some songs??? Anyone have more info on this music feature? When did it stop or is it still active in the series?

I want to make a new NFS torrent with any new music files, like that NFS 3 album and any other NFS album that may be different/rarer than the mainstream versions on the 'net, etc., and also the Saturn version of NFS 1 in 192kbps that I was given. If I get enough requests, I will make new torrents. Until then, they're hosted and linked at various places here.

• Update (2007-09-08):
I'm not sure if any of Nordmann's files are "The Albums"; it's possible.

Fun with Music Production

I recently started playing around with some professional music production programs, like FL Studio (aka/formerly Fruity Loops) and other programs just for fun. The artist name and song title ("Shake" by Chris Walsh & Dave Beran) is incorrect. It's actually the song "Score" by Slyder. Also, someone just gave me the full version of this great song, if anyone wants it.

The song "Electro Mix" (NFS5) -- I'm not sure if it's a NFS song but it sounded decent, like it could have been in the series/NFS5, but I haven't seen the song title in any track listings. Any info on "Electro Mix"?

The file, Need for Speed (game undetermined) - Track 12.mp3, is the song Cetus 808 (Lost Canyons Techno) from NFS 3 (which was already included in the NFS 3 songs)

The song "Rock This Place" (NFS5) that is in the torrent is different than another version of the song I heard on the Web. And possibly a slightly different/edited ending.

Spacemusic Podcast

Spacemusic Podcast's RSS feed which includes free extra episodes

I recently downloaded (and saved) the Spacemusic Podcast archive. I've been listening to it off and on since 2005. I've never heard anything quite like it. TC is great and his accent sounds very different. It sounds like the same genre and kind of style (dreamy and spacey) that was in the early NFS music. For some reason, I haven't been able to listen to the stream on podcast.net for a very long time; I used to be able to, I believe. I had to look at the Page Source, then find the mp3/m4a file URL/link and download each episode like that.

TC began charging a small fee, $1.99 per episode . I have considered donating to the Spacemusic podcast even before it moved to a pay fee. I don't have an iPod, iTunes or anything (have a cheap SVP mp3 player :P) so I don't know if it was a pay fee even before this for iTunes/iPod people. Here is the Web address for Spacemusic's podcast archive on Podcast.net and here is the Spacemusic podcast's new feed. If you're listening to Spacemusic for the first time, go to the free Spacemusic archive on Podcast.net to listen to it, it's out of this world! Leave a comment to let me know what you think of it. I'm also on the lookout for similar podcasts, so leave a comment if you know of some other great music.
UPDATE (Nov. 1, 2006-10PM)
I downloaded episode 63 of Spacemusic on Halloween. Wow, another incredible episode!
UPDATE (Jan. 15, 2006)
I just downloaded and am now listening to Spacemusic Podcast episode 65 as I write this. The girl, Shelley (sp?) introduced TC (go TC! :-) in episode 65 and I hadn't really realized she had been in the introduction the past few episodes. I've come to realize that there's nothing like a girl's voice in Electronic music. I've noticed that some of my favorite Electronic music I've liked over the years has a girl's voice somewhere in it. A guy's voice can sound good, too, particularly TC and some of the male vocals featured in Spacemusic and in other music I've heard (NFS, etc.), which I would generally describe both types of vocals I often hear in Electronic music as kind of dreamy, hypnotic and/or subliminal.

NFS 1 Music News

I received songs from another generous NFS fan of the Saturn version of the (original) NFS 1 songs. There are apparently only 10 main songs in the Saturn version, compared to 12 main songs on the other versions, as far as I know. Luckily all my favorite songs (Chronos and Aaeeyaaeeyaa) were on the Saturn version. My PC and everything else is on the floor in a messy apt., but I have Internet and a few bowls worth so not too bad overall. And, of course, listening to some great ambient songs with Winamp.

Well, I moved into my new place and had the internet hooked up but my upload speed is about half as fast as my regular service (8mbit/768kbit). So instead of my normal 80 kB/s upload, it's at around 40 kB/s upload. Hopefully that will be fixed soon, I love having a lot of upload power.

...Well, finally got that speed issue fixed after nagging my ISP a few times to see what the problem was, all is well now.

NFS Music torrent disappeared from TorrentSpy

There were many comments on that torrents' comment area, ..now gone. I don't know how it could have disappeared like that. I don't think I deleted it from my TorrentSpy torrents although I could have accidentally, but I'm pretty sure I didn't. Only other way I can think of, is if it was requested to be removed multiple times. I want to thank you all for the comments on torrentspy and on my original NFS Music blog (needforspeedmusic.blogspot.com). I have read every comment on both sites and was very glad you all enjoyed the music as much as I do.

Other things I've been doing: I have been putting together some flash movies from the classic '80s C.O.P.S. torrent I put out. I also recorded a small scene from C.O.P.S. with Fraps but the file size came out way too big. Fraps should use the divx/xvid encoder for recording, I don't know if that's even possible but the file size would be so much smaller. Designing flash animations/movies will be nice once I get used to it a little bit more. I have been using KoolMoves and CoffeeCup Flash Firestarter for the flash animations. I've also been getting very familiar with DVD format so I can modify a DVD's structure just how I want it.

UPDATE:
I found out the torrent can't be re-uploaded back onto TorrentSpy because of the "existing" torrent. What a bugger.. oh well.

Been listening to some songs I've never heard before

There's some other good songs I've read and been informed about from various other games, some on NFS6+ and others from 1-5 that weren't in my collection. So I've been debating on releasing an update at some point down the road of additions made to my collection of every good song. I've been listening to some songs that I've never heard before, like "Electro Optik" from NFS4 and a song by Rom di Prisoco from NFSHP2. All gotten from the only good free NFS music site I know about right now. (too bad nfscheats.com went down)

Also another update on my collection, I finally have every song from the first Need for Speed, in very high quality, MP3 VBR 320 (I think?). Well, I can say that it appears as that, but I'm not sure if it was recorded like that from a high quality source or if it's a rip similar to mine that I did (64 kbps) and just encoded in VBR 320 for looks (no higher quality). The original files on the disc are in WAV and I ripped an mp3 of the same bit rate as the source and gave me a 64 kbps mp3. My thoughts are that the only way to get the highest quality is to record the music. I assume it's coming out higher than 64 kbps, ..right? Still puzzles me. I'm not that experienced at recording game music from consoles, etc. yet but I know the basics of hooking console audio cable into the headphone jack (special adapter?) and recording with various PC software.

In the torrent, I mostly had the main track songs from NFS 1 in a lower quality 64 kbps bit rate; now I have the complete soundtrack in high quality. The Techno 6 "Chronos" song is my favorite from NFS 1, a classic. I mostly played NFS 1, 3, 4 a lot and didn't really play 2, 5, 6 much, only for a short time from either renting one time, playing an in-store demo, etc. It would be fun to play 2, 5, 6 to see what I missed. I was big into playing NFS Underground online (only demo, unfortunately). All I will say is F the unique CD key.

My New Need for Speed Music Domain ... for now

This (nfsmusic.blogspot.com) will be my new Need for Speed music domain that was located at needforspeedmusic.blogspot.com.
